Abstract

Corruption is a disease of a modern society that affects all vital aspects of social and personal life of citizens. Therefore, in a sense, corruption is a way to survive, or the “state” in which the entire society functions. In solving the problem of corruption we must act, first at the preventive level, to prevent its occurrence and the “development”. Specifically, we have to fight the corruption before it happens to us.

The phenomenon of corruption should not be linked to a specific time period or a specific area (country, region, city, etc..). Furthermore, corruption should not be linked to certain professions, although it is not rare that some professions are identified as “corrupt”. Aware of the damage that corruption does to the society and state, as well as the importance of properly directed against the same, the American President Thomas Jefferson said: “It is better to keep the wolf out of the fold, than to trust to drawing his teeth and talons after he shall have entered.”

The author of this work, except the fact that theoretically he deals with the phenomenon of corruption in the modern society, direct his knowledge towards the confrontation with corruption in the police. Therefore, the subject of this paper includes the problem of corruption in the police at the present time from the position of the Inspector-General of the Serbian Interior Ministry, at whose head the author used to be.
