Abstract

The right to work is one of the most important rights on the territory of fifteen member states of the European Union. The initiative for free movement of manpower started in 1951 through establishing European Community for coal and steal. With the Contract on Establishing European Economic Community in 1957 free movement of manpower was declared. In 1997 a great change in Europe happened through the adoption of the Contract in Amsterdam when the member countries renounced great part of their sovereignty by shifting their competence on european level. The word “worker” usually refers to all those who are employed in so called “independent professions” and work for somebody for a certain financial reward, regardless to the kind of work, or legal base of their involvement. Today, free movement of manpower means that all living in the European Union are free to find a job, to be rewarded and to find other working conditions regardless to their citizenship.
